Responsive web design (RWD)

Responsive web design is an approach to web design aimed at crafting sites to provide an optimal viewing and interaction experience easy reading and navigation with a minimum of resizing, panning, and scrollingacross a wide range of devices.Responsive Web design is the approach that suggests that design and development should respond to the user’s behavior

A site designed with RWD adapts the layout to the viewing environment by using fluid, proportion-based grids, flexible images, and an extension of the @mediarule, in the following ways:

• The fluid grid concept calls for page element sizing to be in relative units like percentages, rather than absolute units like pixels or points.

• Flexible images are also sized in relative units, so as to prevent them from displaying outside their containing elements.

• Media queries allow the page to use different CSS style rules based on characteristics of the device the site is being displayed on, most commonly the width of the browser.

Responsive web design is becoming more important as the amount of mobile traffic now accounts for more than half of total internet traffic.changing landscape of web browsers meant that users expectations also changed; people expected to be able to browse the web on their phones just as easily as they browse the web on a desktop computer. So, in response to this the web design community started creating mobile versions of their websites.

Advantages of Responsiveness in Web Design:

It saves money: The customer only has to pay for the development of one website. No mobile apps or mobile websites are necessary.

It saves time within reason: With the right planning, RWD can allow for some efficiency because you will not have to create all new content for every channel you want to reach.

It helps your SEO efforts: With a consistent URL for desktop and mobile users and desktop and mobile search bots, any site you design has uniformity.

It lets your website perform better: Planning ahead for RWD, especially using the mobilefirst-approach, can lead to cleaner and, therefore, faster performing code on mobile and desktop size devices.

It lets your customers find information easier anytime and anywhere: Using RWD in your site design means the website will get a lot more visitors who are using different mobile devices, such as smart tablets and phones.

Fluid Grids RWD

Fluid grids are defined using a maximum width for the design whereas the grid contained is defined using relative widths and/or heights, instead of pixels. This allows the widths and heights to adjust accordingly in relation to the parent container. In other words, as the size of the screen your website is being viewed on gets smaller or larger, your site will adjust accordingly. The advantage of fluid grid is that we can adjust the maxwidth and it will still work on larger screens due to the percentage based calculations.

How INDGLOBAL Designs Fluid grids ?

INDGLOBAL fluid grids designs a maximum layout size for the site also we used to design inside fixed grids with the 960px system. Our team divides a grid into a specific number of columns to keep the layout clean and easy to handle. Then we design each element with proportional widths and heights instead of pixel based dimensions. So whenever the device or screen size is changed, elements will adjust their widths and heights by the specified proportions to its parent container. We will be using the fluid grid according to our clients preference.

Resizable Images RWD

The idea behind Resizable images is that you deliver images at the maximum size they will be used at. You don’t declare the height and width in your code, but instead let the browser resize the images as needed while using CSS to guide their relative size. One major problem that needs to be solved with responsive Web design is working with images to make the images resizable to all browers and mobiles.

How INDGLOBAL Designs Resizable Images?

INDGLOBAL have a number of techniques to resize images proportionately, and many are easily done. Our team gives a perfect solution to this issue in all proportions of making an image resizable to all browsers and mobiles. While resizing an image for mobile devices can be very simple, if the original image size is meant for large devices, it could significantly makes slow download times and take up space unnecessarily. For this kinds of issue we use some of the techniques like.

Responsive Images

This technique not only resizes images proportionately, but shrinks image resolution on smaller devices, so very large images don’t waste space unnecessarily on small screens. This technique is fully supported in modern browsers,IE8+, Safari, Chrome and Opera, as well as mobile devices that use these same browsers(iPad, iPhone, etc.).

Custom Layout Structure

For extreme size changes, we may want to change the layout altogether, either through a separate style sheet or, more efficiently, through a CSS media query. This does not gives any trouble that most of the styles can remain the same, while specific style sheets can inherit these styles and move elements around with floats, widths, heights and so on.

Media Queries RWD

A media query consists of a media type and at least one expression that limits the style sheets’ scope by using media features, such as width, height, and color. Media queries look at the capability of the device, and can be used to check many things, such as:

• width and height of the browser window

• width and height of the device

• orientation (is the tablet/phone in landscape or portrait mode?)

• resolution

• and much more

How Does INDGLOBAL Designs Media Queries?

INDGLOBAL uses many CSS 2.1 and CSS3 media queries to create responsive Web designs with mindevicewidth and maxdevicewidth media query properties this are all targeting certain devices with set dimensions, without applying the same styles to other screen sizes in a browser that mimics the device’s size. And our team have many other tricks with media queries to target specific devices.
